Depressing novel about domestic abuse

A Suitable Lie - Michael J. Malone

I certainly did not find this book enjoyable or entertaining (it probably isn't supposed to be): it is dark and depressing as it relates the story of a victim of domestic abuse who suffers not only physically, emotionally and psychologically but backs this up with innocence and guilt. As a portrayal of a victim of domestic abuse, it is very effective as the victim hides the abuse from family, friends and colleagues. Blackmail, senseless violence, theft and murder all play their part, adding to the drama. The last quarter of the book deals with the victim fighting back and succeeding in finding some sort of resolution.

Quite good but I would recommend this only to those with strong stomachs or who llike “misery” novels.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
